A Plan To Save The World

A vision for a sustainable and unified near future

Introduction: A Call for Global Teamwork

Our world faces immense challenges, but they are solvable if we choose to work together. This plan is designed to unify humanity around a shared vision of a sustainable, just, and thriving future. By leveraging communication, collaboration, and collective action, we can accelerate progress toward the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and create a world where both people and the planet are taken care of.

Why This Matters

  1. Our Current Systems Are Failing Us – Many human-made systems are not designed to support well-being. Our food system, for example, contributes to climate change and biodiversity loss while wasting enough food to solve world hunger.

  2. We Have the Knowledge and Technology to Fix This – The solutions to these problems exist, especially now that we have unprecedented technological capacity to communicate and coordinate globally.

  3. People Want Change – A growing number of people recognize the need for a better system. The question is: can we organize ourselves to make it happen?

The Plan: Step-by-Step Guide to a Sustainable Future

Step 1.1: Establish Interest in Collective Action and Build a Knowledge Base for Change

  • Launch a global poll to assess public interest in working together for a sustainable world (we’ve started that HERE). Since there are people who don’t know what sustainability is, or the full breadth of sustainability, this step includes increasing sustainability literacy through clear, accessible information. ArtSy's Defining Sustainability and SDG Explainer series serve as foundational resources for this.

  • Of course this step includes building partnerships with organizations, academic institutions, businesses, policymakers, and the public to maximize reach and participation, as well as the integration of public insights into decision-making down the line.

Step 1.2: Build a Digital Platform for Collaboration

  • Develop ArtSy’s "hotline to society," a trusted, solution-focused platform/app that empowers individuals to contribute to policy development for a sustainable future. This interface will be used to ask society key questions about what they want for the future, gather insights, and use the results to refine action steps for sustainable development – a roadmap forward and a budget.

Step 2: Secure the Resources to Act

  • Now, we create financial mechanisms to support sustainable development, including establishing a universal basic income (UBI) to ensure financial security during the transition. It may be necessary to ask people not to immediately leave their essential jobs (if they would want to) until there are measures in place to ensure that all essential work is being done, as outlined in Step 3 below.

  • An important foundational concept for funding sustainable development is recognising that money is a human construct – we can make it work for us. Economists like Thomas Piketty have written on how central banks can generate funds with inflation as the only limit. If we collectively agree to control inflation, nothing stops us from creating the financial resources required to fund sustainable development without artificial constraints. This is perhaps the most logical and easy-to-implement route.

  • If necessary, we can even reimagine value system entirely. The key is that we have the power to shape economic structures in ways that serve people and the planet.

Step 3: Redesign Work and Industry

  • We must align work with passion and purpose. A way to begin this is to survey people on their current jobs, desired work, and barriers they face. We can then invest in AI based automation for necessary but undesired jobs, allowing people to work in areas that align with their skills and passions.

  • We must ensure all industries, products, and services transition to sustainable practices – prioritising the improvement of livelihoods, environmental restoration and resource efficiency.

How to Get Involved

  1. Take the Unity Poll to express your support for global cooperation.

  2. Share this initiative to increase global awareness and participation.

Final Thought: Is Our Species Ready to Work as a Team?

A better world is possible, and it starts with us. If we choose to act together, we can build a system that prioritizes well-being for all. Intuitively, the answer to this question feels like a yes – but we do need a measurement-based answer.
